La Storia Di Porta Pia

"Porta Pia is one of the doors that opens in the Aurelian's Walls of Rome. It became particularity important when, on September, the 20th, 1870, the part of that touched the door ( the most feeble far it is the most exposed) was the scene of end of the popes temporal power. After five hours of the reign of Italy's artillery could enter the walls, through the "Breccia di Porta Pia", allowing the italian bersaglieres to enter the heart of the city. On the exact point where the hole was opened. Ten meters or so in the west direction, a monument was built in marble and bronze. In front of the door at the external side, in the center of Porta Pia's square, you can find the monument "Il Bersagliere", built in 1932 by Publio Morbiducci, ordered by Mussolini.
